Talking about cosmetic surgery in class opened my eyes up to just how "normal" it is for people to get that kind of surgery done, when before it was looked down upon or only the wealthy could afford it. I believe that having shows that have people getting the surgery done such as Extreme Makeover makes it seem to others that surgery is safe, nothing can go wrong, affordable and that anyone should get it to improve their life. Getting surgery doesn't always make things better and not everyone's surgery goes as planned or expected. I think that it encourages people to get the surgery done without talking about the pain, the money, the aftermath of the surgery or recovery process. They just show a before and after of the surgery. So it kind of plays a mind trick on some people. However there are some shows that do provide that such as Nip/Tuck as we discussed in class. With Nip/Tuck the cosmetic isn't glamorous at all as it may seem like it is in Extreme Makeover. I'm happy that there is a show like Nip/Tuck to show just how gruesome surgery can be even if I may not like to watch it because it would make me sick to my stomach.

This is such a hard topic for me to comment on. I happen to want plastic surgery. I have what I feel lis a good reason though. I was born three months pre-mature. Because of this, the bridge of my nose is very very wide. I always hate getting my pictures taken because if the light hits my nose in the right spot, it looks huge! However, I do not agree at all with those individuals who get repetitive surgeries. They do not realize all that they are doing is creating insane amounts of scar tissue. This can be more of a detriment to a persons health.
